What Happens When a Pool Deck Is Installed Poorly?
It dips, it separates, and eventually the whole thing has to come out. Around a pool that matters more than it does anywhere else on the property. A low spot in a back paver patio is an annoyance. A low spot beside a pool holds water where people are walking barefoot.
Separation is the slower problem and usually the first sign. Joints that were never locked in properly let sand wash out every time the deck gets hosed off or a storm comes through, and once the joints are loose the pavers begin moving as individual pieces instead of behaving like one surface. From there it compounds. More movement, wider joints, more settling, and uneven edges right where somebody steps out of the water.
None of that is repairable in the ordinary sense. You can reset a handful of pavers. You cannot correct a base that was never compacted properly without pulling the deck up and rebuilding it, which means paying for the same job twice.
