WILDWOOD PAVER INSTALLERS
Who installs paver driveways and patios in Wildwood, FL?
Benchmark Pavers builds paver driveways and paver patios for Wildwood homeowners, from the older lots near the historic Main Street downtown to the newer Villages neighborhoods on the Sumter County side of town.
Those two parts of Wildwood want different prep. An older lot usually has mature trees, roots and ground that has settled for decades. A newer lot is flat and builder graded, and the first job is finding out what is buried under it. Dirt tells you a lot. Either way we look at what is already on the ground before we quote anything.
Plenty of Wildwood driveways are cracked or stained concrete that has outlived its welcome. Plenty of back doors open onto a bare slab or nothing at all. All of that can become a paver driveway or a patio that lasts, and the estimate tells you in writing what the old surface will cost to remove and haul off. Call (352) 651-6077 and we will come measure.
COLOR AND BORDER
What does a Glacier and Charcoal paver driveway look like?
It reads as a light, cool grey with white in it, framed by a dark border. The driveway in the photo uses Glacier, the name Tremron gives a paver that is white with blends of medium to charcoal grey, and the border is Tremron Charcoal. That is the whole recipe.
This color works well on the open, sunny streets in Wildwood's newer neighborhoods. Light pavers stay cooler underfoot than dark ones, and the Charcoal border keeps the edge crisp where the driveway meets mulch or turf. On a wide driveway in front of a three car garage, that border does a lot of the visual work.
Want to see how the same blend looks on a finished job? Our Glacier and Charcoal driveway in The Villages walks through the border, the sealing and the color choice. We also carry current samples from Tremron pavers to your consultation so you can hold them against your own siding and garage door before anything is ordered.
DRIVEWAY REPLACEMENT
Can you replace a cracked concrete or thin paver driveway in Wildwood?
Yes. We get these calls across Sumter and Marion counties, and Wildwood is no exception. The most common one goes like this: a contractor laid thin veneer pavers, 1 1/4 inches thick, over an existing concrete driveway, and a few years later they are cracking.
The manufacturer rates veneer pavers for foot traffic only, like paver patios and lanais. A car is a different load. Cracking is what you get when that product sits under a vehicle.
Our fix is to take the whole driveway out, including the concrete pad underneath, and build a new one with pavers rated for vehicles, which are 2 3/8 inches thick. Hearing that the concrete has to come out can be a rough moment. The process itself is quicker than most people expect. It typically takes us half a day to remove the old driveway and haul it off, and then the real work starts on the base that should have been there in the first place.
BUILT TO LAST
How do you keep a paver driveway from developing dips and weeds?
Compaction and sealing. Dips and weeds are the two things Wildwood homeowners ask about most, and neither one is the paver's fault. Both come from shortcuts underneath.
We bed the pavers on limestone screenings, the stone dust that has held up for decades of Florida installs, over a base that is compacted properly. Every shortcut we have been called out to repair traces back to skipped compaction. The joints get polymeric bonding sand, which locks the pavers together and leaves weed seeds nothing to root in. Then we seal the surface. Neither step is glamorous, but together they are what separates a driveway that stays flat from one that has to be pulled up and redone.
Sealing is not a one time job. We recommend resealing every two to three years, and the sealer is what holds the color against Florida sun. Ask any installer how they compact before you sign. If the answer is vague, keep looking.
