CITRUS SPRINGS PAVER INSTALLERS

Who builds paver patios and fire pit areas in Citrus Springs, FL?

Benchmark Pavers does. We install paver patios, fire pit areas and driveways for Citrus Springs homeowners in Citrus County, on lots that sit right up against the pines of the Withlacoochee State Forest.

Citrus Springs is a platted community, and a lot of its lots were cleared out of scrub and sand pine. New builds here often hand you a bare, sandy back yard and a slab at the door. That is a blank slate, and it is a good time to plan the patio before the landscaping goes in, not after.

We are based in nearby Inverness, so this is our backyard. We measure the lot ourselves, talk through how you want to use it, and give you a written estimate. Many Citrus Springs owners ask for a patio with a fire pit as the centerpiece. If that is you, look at our paver fire pits page, then call (352) 651-6077.

FIRE PIT PATIOS

How is a paver fire pit patio built on a sandy lot?

On a compacted base, same as any patio, with the fire pit built into the paver field. The patio in the photo has a square block fire pit set in the middle and a Charcoal border on three sides, on a lot cleared out of the woods.

Sandy ground sounds forgiving. It drains well, so you are not fighting mud. But loose sand will not carry a load until it is compacted properly, and the work happens in stages: compact the sand, build the base, compact again, screed the limestone screenings, then lay the pavers. The fire pit gets its own footing on the same compacted base so it does not settle differently from the patio around it.

Out near the Cross Florida Greenway and the state forest edge, owners tend to want a spot for evenings outdoors. A fire pit area does that without needing a roof. Ask your local county office what burn rules apply to your lot, then we can plan the layout around them.

SANDY GROUND

Do pavers hold up on sandy Citrus Springs ground?

Yes, when the base is built properly. Limestone screenings as the bedding layer have held up through time tested experience, and the key is compaction. Sand under the base does not change that. It just means more of the work is below the surface.

Near the Citrus Springs Community Center and across most of the community, the soil is similar, and so is the failure we see when someone shortcuts a paver patio: dips and separation between pavers. Both come from a base that was not compacted well enough, not from the pavers.

After the base, the joints get polymeric bonding sand so weeds have nowhere to root. Then we seal the pavers, and we recommend resealing every two to three years. That is the whole system. Skip a step and you will find out within a few years. Do all of it and a patio built today should look the same ten years from now.

WHAT IS NEW

What has changed in paver installation lately?

The materials. Polymeric bonding sand and sealers are better than they were a few years ago, and manufacturers keep releasing new paver designs and color tones. A Citrus Springs homeowner choosing now has more to pick from, including charcoal and grey blends like the one around this fire pit.

We adapt by testing what the manufacturers send and using what holds up. We bring current samples to every consultation so you can see the real color in your own light. Fire pit patios look especially good in darker blends, since the border frames the pit and the field stays soft. If you are planning a fire pit area, settle the border and field colors before the base goes in, because changing them afterward means lifting pavers that are already set and locked in with polymeric sand.

Good products do not rescue a bad base, though. We still compact in stages, bed on limestone screenings and finish every joint with polymeric sand. If you are planning a driveway or a larger patio in Citrus Springs, our paver driveway page shows how we build one.
