Will a blue and white paver blend look right on a Villages home?
On the right house, it looks sharp. This home has white trim, a grey roof and a flag out front, and the navy, grey and white blend on this paver driveway in The Villages picks up all three.
Blended pavers work because no two pieces match exactly. Up close you see navy, soft white and charcoal. From the street it reads as a cool grey with some movement in it, which is a lot easier to live with than a solid color on a surface this big.
Color is also where people second guess themselves. A small sample looks different against a garage door than it does in a showroom. Why put a dark border around a paver driveway?
It frames the field and makes the edges look deliberate. On this job a charcoal soldier course runs the full perimeter of the driveway, then follows the walkway all the way to the front door.
Borders do real work too. The soldier course gives the outside edge a clean, straight line, which matters where the driveway flares out wide toward the street. Without it, the cut ends of the field pavers sit right against the grass, and every small cut along that long flared edge shows up the moment you pull into the driveway. With it, the eye reads a single frame.
The walkway is where the border pays off most. It curves past red mulch beds and a curbed bed edge, and the dark band keeps the curve crisp against all that color. Pick the same border for the driveway and the walk and the two pieces look like they were planned together, because they were.

How do you keep a colored paver driveway from looking faded?
Seal it, and keep sealing it. We seal the surface when the job is done and recommend resealing every two to three years.
A blend with navy in it is exactly where sealing shows. Sealer deepens the color and gives the surface some protection from stains, so the darker pieces keep their contrast against the white ones instead of going chalky. Skip it for years and the blend flattens out.
The pavers themselves matter as well. The manufacturers we work with make products meant to resist UV fading in Florida sun, and sealers have improved along with them over the last few years. So has polymeric sand.
One honest caution. Dark pavers run hotter in direct sun than light ones. On a driveway that is rarely a problem. On a pool deck where people walk barefoot, we usually steer toward lighter colors, and our pool deck pavers page explains why.
Will weeds grow up between driveway pavers?
Not if the job is built right. Weeds and dips are the two things homeowners ask about most, and both come from how the driveway was installed, not from the pavers.
Three things stop them, and all three happen on every job. The base gets compacted before anything goes on top, with limestone screenings as the bedding layer, compacted again. The joints get Gator Maxx G2 polymeric bonding sand, which locks the pavers to each other and gives weed seeds nothing to root into. Then the surface is sealed.
Driveways get a heavier version of that buildup, with vehicular rated pavers at 2 3/8 inches thick. Thinner veneer pavers are rated for foot traffic, and when they are laid over an old concrete driveway they tend to crack within a few years.
